Beef Cattle
With the growing public concern involving growth hormones, antibiotics, and contaminated meat products, Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch has decided to raise a few beef calves for personal consumption. What started out as a family project has expanded, and now Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch is offering beef for sale on the hoof or by hanging weight in halves.
Our herd is made up of pure bred Texas Longhorn and purebred horned Charolais cows, which are artificially inseminated with Texas Longhorn semen. Purebred calves are occasionally offered for sale. The meat one can expect to get from a crossbred calf is typically lean and well muscled. Steers are butchered at the end of summer, when the pasture can no longer support them. Grain is not fed in massive quantities, so there is limited back fat, but excellent flavor.
