Call Ducks
Usually referred to
as the ‘toy’ breed of ducks or bantams, Call Ducks are about one quarter to
one third of the size of normal domesticated ducks. They are quiet,
sweet tempered and have a moderate ability to fly (somewhat like a pheasant’s
flight pattern). They are excellent
brooders and will hatch out several clutches from March to September.
Call Ducks are loyal and will not leave a reliable water source or food dish
if given the opportunity to free range. They are exceedingly hardy and
prefer to brave most inclement weather outdoors and rarely use a provided
shelter except for shade and a windbreak. They come in a variety of colors
and patterns; however the favorite is somewhat similar to that of a mallard. When available for
sale, ducklings are $8 each, or trios can be purchased for $20. |
