What’s New

Thanks Joe and Jessie!

Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch acquired more taxidermy work thanks to owner Annie Bowes’ brother Joe Brodmerkle and his wife Jessie. Together they have made a beautiful display of ducks and ducklings under glass for coffee and end tables along with a dark chocolate cow hide to put underneath. Thanks Joe and Jessie – you do incredible work!

Loss of a Good Friend

Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch has lost the oldest member of the horse herd: Little Guy Funquest affectionately known as “Kiaik.” On October 15 Kiaik passed away at the age of 26, having spent a few days lying under his favorite apple tree. He had a heart condition and went quietly in the arms of his owner, Annie Bowes.

Kiaik has been a loved member of the family for over 24 years. His passing has left a painful void in everyone’s heart that was blessed to have known him and his legacy.

A Taste for Chocolate

When the opportunity to adopt another Chocolate Labrador presented itself, Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch owner Pete Bowes did not hesitate. Welcome Jack, our second Chocolate Labrador. He gets along well with the other dogs and is obsessed with his Kong. It is hoped his fetching energy can be converted to shed antler hunting in the spring. He is already showing some promise and is very eager to please.

More Poultry

Variety is the spice of life, and Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch has plenty of it! Adding to the poultry flock this year is a pair of peacocks. It is hoped they will add some color and young ones over the years. Check back in the spring for pictures of the male in full plumage!

Pheasant Chicks

Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch has collaborated with the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council to increase the pheasant population in north Idaho. One hundred chicks will be grown to full feather, and then released in to the wild to improve the number of game birds in our local area. We hope to see them back in the spring with chicks of their own.

Round Two!

Our crossbred sow, Agnus, has produced her second beautiful litter of piglets: nine wildly marked little wieners! Most are spoken for, but if you would to be on the list to purchase one, please call (208) 659-6825. They will be castrated and ready to go by the end of May.

Newest Edition

This year our lovely Charlolais cow produced a soft mousey grey line-back calf that is quite large for a Longhorn cross. He is very patient, and mild mannered. He was born when the weather was still quite cold, and has frost bite on his ears. He will grow as a steer, and be sold for beef.

Latest Taxidermy Project

Two very sad cases have turned into a beautiful art display: a poached bobcat kitten from the Fish & Wildlife Department, and a fawn that tangled with hay equipment. Put together by Joe Brodmerkle, professional taxidermist, for his sister, Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch owner, Annie Bowes. Beautiful work, Joe!

Another Business Venture

Pete and Annie Bowes have started yet another company: Emergency Pet Care PLLC which is designed to provide after-hours care for small animals. A building is being identified for purchase, and is currently operated out of a leased facility on Seltice Way in Post Falls. Two other veterinarians have been hired, and it is hoped that at least one more will join the team. The technician staff is phenomenal and the transition this new company has gone through has been relatively smooth. If your pet should need care during the evening, weekend, or holiday, please call Emergency Pet Care at (208) 777-2707.
