What Was New in 2007
The New Watchdogs
Guinea Fowl are notorious for being snake killers, bug catchers, and perimeter patrollers. They make quite a ruckus when disturbed and do not like strangers. Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch acquired a small flock of Lavender Guinea Fowl to alert the other poultry flocks when a potential predator is on the prowl.
Beef. It's what's for dinner.
A farm just isn’t a
farm without some steak producing livestock. Just before winter is not the
best time be acquiring cattle, but given the sweet nature of “Clover” the
black angus cow, and the four cute young calves that all suckle from her, we
just couldn’t say no. Three of the calves will be offered for sale, and we will
grow one out for the freezer next year. Additional photos and details
about purchasing the calves can be obtained at the following webpage:
Happy Halloween!
A giant spider has made its home in the horse pasture this autumn. He can be seen from the road, so please drive by and take a closer look before we feed him to the horses!
Our Latest Addition
“Harvey” the little white kitten joined Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch the first week of October. Hopefully he will grow up to be a good barn cat, but given his pretty color he may not surprise many mice at night!
One After Another
On Monday, June 11, 2007, our Thoroughbred mare Birdie gave birth to a beautiful bay colt. Then, on Tuesday, June 12, our Appaloosa mare Sally gave birth to a lovely blanketed filly! Both foals were sired by our stallion, “Wings of Wyoming” and they will be offered for sale when they are weaned. Please check out our Horses for Sale webpage for details.
Birth Announcement
On Monday, May 7th, 2007 our Thoroughbred mare Peaches gave birth to a beautiful black filly with two socks and a star-snip. These pictures are at three hours of age – and boy is she big! Her name is “Rula” (pending registration with the Jockey Club) and she will be a permanent member of Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch. She is this year’s first foal from “Wings of Wyoming,” our Thoroughbred herd sire.
Adam’s Truck
Pete’s son Adam has finished driver’s training and needed a vehicle to drive that was cooler than our cars; so we bought him this ’97 Dodge 4x4. It’s a standard, and so we told him to try it out in the field before heading down the road. The link below is to a video of Adam getting the hang of changing gears. Do you think he's ready for the road?!
Chicks in the Mail!
New chickens have arrived at Bluebird Farm & Horse Ranch! A box of 15 Black Australorp pullets (plus 6 straight run so we get a rooster) and 5 Bronze Broad-breasted Turkey chicks arrived in the mail in mid-March. Black Australorps are excellent layers, and produce brown eggs consistently throughout the winter. The turkeys are for Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday dinners. Spring must be here if chicks are running around!
Four New Additions!
Baby Canaries!
The first week in January our Gloster Corona - Fife Canary pair hatched out a new clutch of chicks! Our other pair (a Red Factor and Spanish Timbrado) are also setting and are expected to have chicks of their own soon. Fledglings will be offered for sale in February or March. For additional information please visit our webpage: Canaries
